Governance Maturity Assessment.

Know where you stand. Know what to do next.

Most organisations operating in sectors with First Nations exposure have policies, strategies, or commitments in place. What they often lack is clarity on whether those commitments are structurally embedded in governance, in risk management, or in decision-making.

The FNSAF Governance Maturity Assessment gives you that clarity.

Developed by First Nations Affairs, the assessment applies the First Nations Strategic Alignment Framework to evaluate your organisation's current governance maturity across four pillars:

Strategy — Are your ESG commitments and organisational purpose aligned with UNDRIP, FPIC, and First Nations leadership?

Governance — Does your decision-making structure embed cultural governance expertise, board oversight, and Indigenous leadership?

Risk Management — Have you identified the governance risks, cultural exposure, and reputational liability arising from misalignment?

Metrics + Targets — Do you have the benchmarking, heatmapping, and reporting mechanisms needed to demonstrate accountability?

What the Assessment Delivers

This is not a checklist. It is a structured diagnostic that surfaces where your organisation sits across each FNSAF pillar, where gaps exist, and what credible progress looks like.

Every organisation that completes the assessment receives:

A visual maturity summary across all four FNSAF pillars, a one-page tailored insights report suitable for board or executive review, and a 45-minute strategy session with an FNA advisor to unpack results and identify your next best step.

The assessment is designed for ESG leads, governance professionals, risk and compliance teams, and senior executives who need a defensible, evidence-based starting point — not another aspirational framework.
